Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created. Genesis 5:2

Truth has been under assault from the very moment Eve fell prey to the wiles of the snake in the garden. Due to our slothfulness, Satan very rarely has to extend much effort to blind even the Elect, the very people God has called to be the Bulwark of Truth and last line of defense against the rapidly insipid moral decay of this present corrupt and baseless generation.

TikTok, YouTube, and other social media platforms are replete with alleged ministers of God’s Gospel attempting to justify anything from homosexuality to women's ordination.

Yet, there is one solace Evangelicals can hang their hat upon, which is that God will never be without a witness upon the Earth. Just as God did with King Nebuchadnezzar, our thrice Holy and All-Wise God can and does use non-believers to annunciate Biblical truth whenever it suits His purposes and plans.

Listening to Dr. Albert Mohler’s Monday, April 7, 2025 episode of The Briefing, Dr. Mohler shares the fascinating story of renowned atheist Jerry Coyne, professor emeritus in the Department of Ecology and Evolution at the University of Chicago, being "canceled" for the egregious crime of proclaiming there are ONLY two sexes.

Some say Augustine originates the famous quote, "All truth is God's truth!" Regardless of origin, the sentiment is accurate, profound, timely, and needed for our day.

God can use pagans even in our day, just like He did with Kings Cyrus and Nebuchadnezzar in the Old Testament, to accomplish His most Holy Will, which should be of no surprise to the careful student of Holy Scripture.

What I find delightfully astonishing is how the Left turns upon itself with such vigor. Now, I fully grant that the Right is often guilty of the same malady, but I love how the Left does it so bombastically.

The Left is sold out to thumbing their nose at their Creator, endorsing all manner of morally debased ideology.  As one example, J.K. Rowling, author of the famed Harry Potter novels, and Martina Natrovila, Hall of Fame tennis champion, are ardent apologists for all things lesbianism. Still, they draw the line at biological males (as if there were any other kind, but this is the day we live in that you have to spend quality time qualifying the descriptor male) being able to participate in women’s sports, all to the ire of those on the radical Left.

We see the same scorn being heaped upon one of their own when the radical Left turns their guns upon Jerry Coyne for having the unmitigated gall to state out loud there are two sexes: male and female.

While Coyne does not posit theological truth, he does at least posit biological truth. In this case, Evangelicals will happily take what we get at the moment.

It shows how the Left really is trying to stand on solid ground with both legs suspended in midair. They want to embrace all things LGBTQ-A, but they want to be taken seriously as people who follow the science.

Regrettably, for them, you cannot do both. You cannot claim to follow the science and embrace the gender revolution at the same time and in the same relationship. Jerry Coyne tried to do so and was vilified for doing so.

Coyne, hailed as a champion by the atheist community, was a featured awardee from the secularist organization Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), that is, until he, like Rowlings and Natrovila, strayed from theological liberal orthodoxy and went off script and dared to utter words no self-respecting devotee of the gender revolution would dare to utter. There are two and only two sexes.

Coyne, along with fellow famous atheist scientists Richard Dawkins and Steven Pinker, has resigned from the FFRF in protest. While I carry no water for Coyne, Dawkins, and Pinker, I can at least appreciate that they concede the inscrutable biological truth that biology is immutable.

Evangelicals, we have the high ground, so we need never recede into the background. Because all truth is indeed God’s Truth, we can stand toe-to-toe with the greatest minds in the scientific community.

We can confidently enter into the Marketplace of Ideas and speak for God with boldness and confidence. We can just as easily proclaim, as our counterparts from the Left do, so erroneously, I might add, that we, too, are simply following the science.

Yet, as Evangelicals, we do so from an entirely different worldview and foundation. We do so because we ground our thinking on what our Creator God has revealed to us in His most Holy Writ.

It is our Creator God who has revealed to us that Male & Female He created them.

So, while Coyne does not yet embrace theological truth, he has at least reached the point in his thinking where he embraces biological truth.

Let us continue to pray for all the Jerry Coynes in our spheres of influence because unless the Lord builds it, we build in vain. Salvation is not like horseshoes. It is not enough to get close; we have to hit the bullseye if we want to live in eternal felicity with God in heaven.

The Bad news is that fallen humanity ever hitting the bullseye is beyond our reach. That is why approaching Palm Sunday and Resurrection Sunday are so significant in the Evangelical calendar and the only sources of our Good News.

Jesus Christ left heaven, lived on Earth the life we never could, and hit the bullseye perfectly in every way to satisfy the Father’s fully justified Holy Wrath against us and set free all those who would place their faith in His finished work on the cross.

May we never lose our sense of awe and wonder as we contemplate the Cross of Calvary and may we never stop praying for the Jerry Coynes in general and for Jerry Coyne in particular.

Today, he embraces biological truth. He just needs to take one step further and embrace theological truth. You cannot have one without the other.
